How to paint an old refrigerator – vintage appliance – 1950’s Coldspot Fridge – Hotrod Paint Job
1950 Coldspot refridge, purchased on Craigslist for 0 and wanted to give a custom but retro style. Stripped to metal, rust repaired, dents fixed. We then used spray paint, as well as automotive paint like you would on a car, and put a hot rod paint job on this. You could also do this to a stove, oven, or toaster, microwave or any vintage or old household home appliance. The vintage style hotrod paint job really sets this thing apart.

  1. If Matt doesn’t like the fridge, he doesn’t have to drink any beer from it

  5. Nothing wrong with that sir I like it can’t wait to see it put together

  6. To bad it didn’t turn out like you wanted Gary, but like you said the only way to learn things is to screw up!

  7. I think it’s cool looking.

  8. Wow that was a huge amount of work. Great tape work. Wonder what the pagan gold would have looked like over coarse silver. Love seeing those old fridges restored.

  9. HOK… R   just that a kandy ,,,when u look in the HOK color book..it is NOT clear what they r saying…what they show r kandyz over a base coat….kandyz will show everything under it,,,u just have 2 spray like a robot .kandyz just make the base coat richer in color   PEEEACE

  10. I was wondering about that kandy base, I may go another route. Fridge looks pretty darn awesome!

  11. looks good

  12. Nice project Gary.  Looks good from here.  Fair to say you preferred the UreKem Urethane candy you used before to the HOK Kandy Base?  On that type of project where you have a lot of tape outs we would have recommended candy base as well.  The 2K urethane candy is harder to work with on tapeouts and leaves more of an edge to bury. Seems really dark for pagan even over the dark undercoat. We generally say 2-3 coats on the candy base and then finish off with a drop coat more like spaying base than 2K candy.  Hope you guys are doing well.
